The value of holidaying
Having stayed in Singapore for the better half of my life, I must say that we can easily get absorbed into a one dimensional view of life. One that revolves around work, sleep and the 2-3 lunch spots we seem to go to every single time. I recently had the pleasure to travel to Vietnam, where I stayed at Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Sapa. The bustling cities are chaotic, exciting and much more affordable than Singapore (unsurprisingly). I had a blast trying all the local foods like the Bánh xèo and the infamous Vietnamese coffee which I had every single morning while I was there. But beyond that, it exposed to a very different country, and a society that embraces different values from us in Singapore.
I particularly want to highlight the youth scene that I observed while holidaying there. It seems that people in Vietnam are much more open to a variety of different career paths than people in Singapore. Perhaps they have a more nuanced idea of success in life. But the point I want to make is that perhaps there is value in observing the countries we visit, so that we do not live and exist in a bubble of like thoughts and ideas. Perhaps by travelling more we can expose ourselves to more diverse ideas that the world has to offer and be more open to bold, daring plans in our work and in life….
...Or maybe I just wanted to use this platform to share photos of my trip there.
